Jay-Z and D’Angelo will debut a ten plus minute track on Friday that will be featured on The Book of Clarence soundtrack. It’s movie starring LaKeith Stanfield that premieres this Friday in theaters. The movie has a strong biblical connection, so expect this track to be epic as it’s the first collaboration by the music icons.
Between the freaky deaky on Hunter’s laptop and his propensity to dabble in that hard white, now we have a small quantity of cocoa found in a cubby located in the visitor storage area of the White House. This is clearly the worst troll move ever or maybe Hunter is that lackadaisical, either way I say let’s hit sleepy Joe with a bump. Let’s see if we can open his mind to student loan forgiveness and end the proxy war in Ukraine. That’s a post for another time, besides it’s not like it’s the first-time blow was in the White House. wink wink FDR!

Last night’s Verzuz battle between The LOX and The Dipset was some unadulterated rap madness. The energy at the MSG Hulu theater was at one hundred the whole night, complete with a Michael Buffer intro fit for the two heavyweight crews. Harlem and Yonkers finest took us on a journey through some of the street anthems that have made them legendary forces in rap. Now my overall analysis can be summed up quite simply. The Dips won the fashion show. D block won the rap contest. My favorite moment from last hands down was Jada asking Zeke if he had any bars.
One of the shining lights from the past year has been the joint podcast venture from Royce da 5’9 and Lupe Fiasco. They’ve discussed everything from hip-hop to politics, to even manga, but I never thought the two associates would take the partnership to another level and actually compete against each other in a war of words. Keeping it on wax, they easily demonstrate why they are two of the greatest lyricists ever. Peep the friendly back and forth below.
Megan the Stallion will be the first rapper to grace the cover of Sports Ilustrated’s highly coveted Swimsuit issue.
When hip-hop is used properly, it knows no bounds. For me personally, music that pushes the limits, but also centers the listener is the experience I hope other music lovers feel. Implement the visual medium and you have, It’s A Wonderful Plight, a hip-hop musical directed by Justin Rhodes. He is behind the music that provides the backdrop for the film that takes would-be ally Scott on a journey into the existence and history of Black Americans. Scott’s spiritual guide, Joseph the Hotep, goes from slavery to the senseless death of Botham Jean. It’s A Wonderful Plight balances the candy and the medicine effortlessly. This is a must watch for all lovers of things B.A.F.
As I was learning the history of Asian Americans, I came across this interesting and overlooked piece of history.
The video features tracks, "Clouds in My Sunshine" and newly remixed, “More Weight” featuring Israel. Video directed by Sean Dreeszen of Clearview Films. Tracks produced by L!ft T!cket and recorded at Denver's Conway Sound.
If you’re a lover of basketball and a fan of 90’s nostalgia, you, like me, are currently wrapped up in ESPN’s ten-part docuseries, The Last Dance, which follows the last season of the iconic Chicago Bulls final championship season. I’m a Jordan fan boy, a Stan if you will, and totally unapologetic about it. I wanted to walk like him, talk like him, and wear suits like him. I wanted to play horse with Larry Bird and team up with Bugs Bunny to face the Monstars. My first real memory of the Bulls would be the 1991 finals. My Grandma’s favorite player of all time was Irvin “Magic” Johnson, it’s how I got my nickname. Now I’m going to let you in on a little secret. When I was younger, I hated that nickname. Why you ask? It’s because I wanted to be like Mike. You see, the purple and gold didn’t do it for me. I was all about that red and black, especially the pinstripe uniforms and the shoes, come on now…they’re the greatest shoes ever made! From Dwayne Wayne, to The Fresh Prince, to Marty Mar, the kicks became a part of my culture. There are a lot of parallels between the rise of the Bulls and the rise of hip-hop. If Larry was a little bit country and Magic was little bit rock and roll, Jordan was hip-hop. This dude rocked sweats and a gold chain at the 1985 dunk contest. His first sneaker was banned by the NBA. The Bulls, much like hip-hop, had to fight to get the top and along the way changed the world around them. It’s only fitting that some of the greatest rappers ever have payed homage to the GOAT and without further ado, my top 10 favorite Jordan references in hip-hop history.
